christmas day is over – now what?

Christmas day has come and gone and the presents are still under my homemade tree. My elderly wheelchair bound father spent a couple of hours with us over lunch. Les and I thoroughly enjoyed our day.

Boxing Day and the telly is on – the Aussies versus the Indians. The pressies are still under the tree. Our family day was to have been today, but has been postponed because of chickenpox. Poor little Jesse is covered in spots. Les, I think, is secretly pleased with the by-product – he gets to watch the cricket in solitude. Boxing Day test, cup of Earl Grey, fruit mince pies and Ponting just hooked one to the boundary is his idea of a good day.

Come Wednesday though and it will be on with children, presents, food, noise and all the rest that goes with a Christmas day with the family. We will thoroughly enjoy Wednesday.

Our family Christmas plans have gone awry, but that has not changed the joy and peace we have knowing that Jesus was born to save us from a fate worse than death.

For us, Christmas is not just for one day, or a few days or weeks leading up to 25 December. When we were born anew into God’s family, we have Immanuel, God with us in Christ permanently.

So come 2012 – January, February June or July, we have Immanuel.
